Haela Ravenna Hunt-Hendrix, a founding member of Liturgy, describes this period as a transformative time in her artistic development. She explains, "I was studying classical composition and immersed in the vibrant Brooklyn music scene and art world, but I felt a sense of alienation from these contexts. The music evolved from harmony and counterpoint exercises into a more angelic and vitalist sound, influenced by transcendental black metal and philosophical thinkers like Nietzsche and Deleuze."
The urgency behind this creative process is evident in Hunt-Hendrix's words: "I needed to make these albums, and the music had to evolve. It was an emotional progression that I couldn't articulate."

The technical aspects of these early recordings are also noteworthy. Hunt-Hendrix reveals, "These are bedroom recordings, with guitars, drum machines, and whisper vocals tracked through an Ibanez guitar pedal directly into a four-track or computer."
